Each month, we offer many accredited continuing education courses at our office. Review the course listing below and contact the Staffing Department to register or request additional information. Registration is free for all employee nurses with current working hours.

Tracheostomy Management

Whether you are new to tracheostomy management or just need a refresher, our accredited course taught by Tammy Swindell, RN, BSN, CCM, will give you the confidence to independently care for tracheostomy patients.

Basic Care for the Home Ventilator Dependent Patient
This day-long class focuses on care of the ventilator dependent patient and will be taught by Tammy Swindell, RN, BSN, CCM. Course objectives include:

  • Review relevant principles of anatomy, physiology, physics and pathophysiology
  • Explore concepts of types, modes, strategies and complications of mechanical ventilation
  • Demonstrate monitoring techniques to assess for complications and nursing interventions

BLS for the Healthcare Provider (AHA CPR)

Our AHA certified BLS for the Healthcare Provider course (no CEs) instructed by Robin Carlson, EMT-P, CCT is offered free to all employees. Nurses are encouraged to independently review the AHA videos and manuals in advance before attending. Register and contact the Staffing Department to reserve your copy. Registration is $45 for non-employees.

KCI: Etiology and Interventions

This 1-hour course instructed by Margaret Weaver, RN, BSN, WCC is the first in a series of six wound care courses offered by KCI. This course discusses key etiologic factors associated with pressure ulcers, specific interventions for each factor, and contributing factors to pressure ulcer formation.

KCI: Assessment and Documentation of Pressure Ulcers

This 1-hour course instructed by Margaret Weaver, RN, BSN, WCC is the second in KCI's six course series on wound care. Topics include layers of the skin, pressure ulcer evaluation, and the National Pressure Ulcer Advisory Panel (NPUAP)s staging system for pressure ulcers.

KCI: Wound Assessment

This 1-hour course instructed by Margaret Weaver, RN, BSN, WCC is the third in KCI's six course wound care series. The course will discuss classification systems and testing methods for pressure ulcer, venous, arterial, and diabetic wounds. The course also covers items to be assessed and documented when evaluating existing acute and chronic wounds.

KCI: Advances in Wound Care Management: Wound Healing in Diabetic Foot Ulcers

This 1-hour course instructed by Margaret Weaver, RN, BSN, WCC is the fourth in KCI's six course wound care series. Course topics include:

  • Curative and prophylactic diabetic foot surgery techniques,
  • Different systems for classifying diabetic foot wounds,
  • Screening instruments used to identify patients at risk for diabetic foot wounds,
  • Risk factors for diabetic foot ulceration.

KCI: AHRQ Treatment Guidelines: Treatment of Pressure Ulcers

This 1-hour course instructed by Margaret Weaver, RN, BSN, WCC is the fifth in KCI's six course wound care series. Topics discussed in this course include:

  • Debridement Methods,
  • Wound Cleaning and Infection Control Procedures,
  • Criteria for choosing a pressure ulcer dressing, and
  • Adjunctive Therapies and Operative Repair for Pressure Ulcers

This 1-hour course instructed by Margaret Weaver, RN, BSN, WCC is the sixth and final course in KCI's wound care series. Course prerequisites include attendance of all five previous courses in KCI's Wound Care series. This course reviews previous material, and discusses topics associated with wound bed preparation.
